This temple town in North Karnataka is
fast emerging as a prominent tourist destination for beach buddies.
It is known for its five pristine white beaches, located at a short
distance from each other. The most popular beach is Om beach that
sees a lot of frenetic activity. The name's derived from its shape,
split by a rocky island . The Kudle beach is also one of the most
visited beaches with a strip of restaurants and ample provision for
accomodations. Half Moon and the Paradise are secluded and less
populated. The Paradise beach is almost a tiny hideaway spot for
tourists.
Even though Gokarna is not known for
its gastronomical delight , the town has plenty of restaurants that
offer delectable seafood fare like prawn masala and king fish
sizzler. For non-meat lovers, there are lots of restaurants that
serve up steaming idlys and upmas.
For those looking for sand, sun and
surf, Gokarna is one of the ideal getaways. Located 500 kms from
Bangalore, the temple town is connected by bus, railways and the
nearest airport is in Goa at Dabolim.
