Karwar On The West Coast - A Perfect Place For Relaxation

Hemmed by the river Kali on one side and the Western ghats on the other, Karwar is an idyllic seaside town in North Karnataka. It was a major trading centre during the time of British Raj in India in the 19th century. History has it that even Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore penned an ode to Karwar durig his stay in the port town in 1882.

Karwar has emerged as a perfect spot for a quick getaway. With its pristine, unexplored palm-fringed beaches, golden sand and calm waves, the city has gained popularity with tourists who come here for a family holiday. The seaside town offers plenty of activities for adventure buffs also, like diving and snorkelling. For inteprid travellers, looking for a bit of history, Karwar is an ideal holiday destination. The famous Sadashivgad Hill Fort on the outskirts of town is thronged by tourists who scale it to see the beautiful sunset. Other interesting attraction is the Naganatha Temple and according to local legends, visitors here worship an anthill.

Some of the best months for visiting are from December-May when the weather is pleasant.
