Nandi
Hills, located in the Chikkaballapur district is an idyllic hill
fortress that has been the seat of power for many dynasties. Just 60
kms north of Bangalore, this beautiful summer resort also known as
Nandidurga, served as a summer retreat for Tipu Sultan during the
18th century. Nandi Hills gets its name from an ancient Dravidian
Nandi temple situated on the top of the hill, which is the prime
attraction and draws a huge number of tourists. One of the oldest
temples in the state, it was carved in rock and features a beautiful
Kalyani pond. This temple has a thousand year old sculpture of Nandi.
An ancient Lord Shiva and Parvati temple also adorn this hill.
Another
major attraction is the Amrita Sarovar Lake, Tipu's Drop and Sir Mark
Cubbon's bungalow. Nandi Hills is surrounded by several smaller hills
which can be visited on foot. It has several beautiful bunglows made
by Britishers and impressive laid out gardens. Nandi Hills also holds
significance for being the birth place of Sir M. Visvesvaraya.

Hills is an ideal getaway for city folks who wish to take a break
from the daily grind. The hill station has several historical sites,
ancient temples, pilgrim centres and plenty of sightseeing options. A
moderate climate, serene surroundings and delightful cuisine are
